Blogging in Primary

Blogging is a truly child centred approach to learning.  Kids can develop their knowledge, skills and understanding in a meaningful context and are motivated to do so.  As a former Primary School teacher I know how difficult it can be to get some children to engage in writing.

However, if they are able to read or write about topics of interest (e.g Dinosaurs, Space, Football, and Animals) it makes it a lot easier.  In addition, blogging allows them to share their writing with more than just the teacher, classmates and parents.  And as you will see children find this incredibly motivating and they want to improve the quality of their writing.

I came across this video recently on Teachers TV.  Albeit a bit long, I thought it was an excellent example of Blogging in a Primary School.

As I’m not a practicing teacher I would be really interested to see what platforms people are using.  I’ve come across http://primaryblogger.co.uk/. However, as I’m not in a classroom setting I can’t try it out.  Has anyone used it?  Would you recommend it?  How do you manage comments on pupils blogs?
